BARC is pleased to announce that the Willie Bean for Mayor of Fairhope campaign has agreed to collect $1 per vote to be split between BARC and Fairhope's new Dog Park. Votes may be cast at the Coffee Loft, 503 North Section Street in Fairhope.
Willie Bean is a big yeller dog owned by Tress Turner, manager of the Coffee Loft. The campaign started as a local gag, but has gained national and international attention with a mention on the David Letterman Show and t-shirt orders from several countries.
In this election it is fitting and proper to "vote early and vote often." Each dollar collected counts as a vote for Willie Bean and 50 cents for the dog park and 50 cents for BARC's spay and neuter program.
Votes may also be mailed to BARC, P.O. Box 206, Fairhope, AL 36532.

It's spring and there are more dogs and cats, puppies and kittens than ever looking for good, loving homes. If you are interested in adopting please complete an adoption application to begin the adoption process. Advance completion of the application will speed up the adoption process. Applications can be down loaded from this website. Click the Adoption Guidelines and Application link on our home page. Visit our PETS page for a listing of many of the dogs and cats available for adoption. Applications may also be requested by calling 251-928-4585, ext. 100 or by visiting our office at 306 Magnolia, Fairhope, Alabama. All BARC dogs are up-to-date on vaccinations, have been spayed or neutered and have tested negative for heartworms or have undergone heartworm treatment and are microchipped. All these services are included in your adoption fee of just $80. All of BARC's cats are up-to-date on vaccinations, have been spayed or neutered and have tested negative for feline AIDS and leukemia. All these services are included in your adoption fee of $50.

Did you know that if a breeding pair of dogs or cats and all their offspring are allowed to breed unspayed and unneutered for six years that the offspring could number 67,000 dogs or cats!!! There is no way to find homes for all of those unwanted kittens and puppies. We cannot adopt our way out of the problem, we have to spay and neuter.
Spaying and neutering also protects your pet from many illnesses and cancers. You should NOT WAIT until a female has had a litter. It is best to spay before a female goes into her first heat. Neutering male dogs and cats helps stop them from "marking their territory."
Last year more than 5,000 cats and dogs were euthanized at the county shelter and at city shelters around Baldwin County.”
PLEASE have your pet spayed or neutered. Baldwin County residetns can call us for details on our low-income and low-cost spay and neuter programs at 251-928-4585, ext. 100. | Monday, Apr 28, 2008
So often we are asked, "I'd like to help, but I don't have room to take in another animal."
Here are some ways for you to help BARC find loving homes for the animals we rescue.
Cash donations to cover boarding expenses are always welcome. BARC does not have its own shelter; we pay to board our animals at a cost of about $185/month per dog and $125/month per cat. Our boarding bills run in the thousands of dollars each month. Can you sponsor a dog or a cat for a month?
Dog and cat food donations are welcome. We prefer Science Diet and Nutro brands. We currently have a huge need for Science Diet Cat and Science Diet Kitten food.
Medical and spay/neuter needs. To "vet" a shelter dog includes bringing it current on all its shots, having it spayed or neutered and tested for heartworm and treated for heartworm if needed. Cats are tested for feline AIDS and luekemia. Our costs can range from $150 to several hundred dollars. Donations to help cover vet bills are greatly appreciated.
Thank you for any amount you can donate. Every dollar is put to good use to help dogs and cats find loving, safe homes.
Donations may be mailed to:
Baldwin Animal Rescue Center
P.O. Box 206
Fairhope, AL 36533
Food donations may be delivered to our office at:
306 Magnolia Avenue
Fairhope (just a half a block south of South Section Street)
or call if you'd like us to pick up your donation
Thank you! | Friday, Apr 18, 2008
Our need is for an office, warehouse, kennel facility. We are outgrowing our current location. As the lead agency for the Maddie's Pet Rescue Project in Baldwin County our goal is end the euthanization of healthy animals by 2010. This means we need to take healthy, adoptable animals from the animal control shelters and place them in our care. Without a new facility this will be a daunting task.
We need 5 acres in a visible location and construction funding. The estimated cost of this project is $750,000 to $1,000,000.
DONATIONS OF ANY SIZE WILL HELP. Call Kathy Eddy, Executive Director, at 251-928-4585, ext. 102 for more information about how you can help save animal lives in Baldwin County. | Tuesday, Apr 01, 2008
Do you have large capital gains in your stock portfolio? The market value of a gift of appreciated stock to a 501 (C) (3) organization, such as B.A.R.C., is tax deductable. Avoid capital gains tax, get a tax deduction and benefit the abandoned and abused animals of Baldwin County. Talk to your tax advisor or financial planner about how such a donation may benefit you and the animals. Please call Executive Director, Kathy Eddy at 251-928-4585, ext. 102 for more information. |
